Mathematical model of a proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell

This work presents a mathematical modelling of proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) system integrated with resistive variable load. The model was implemented using MATLAB Simulink software, and it used to calculate the electric current voltage at various steady-state conditions. determined by intersection its polarisation curve applied as an input value for simulation PEM performance. validated Horizon H-500xp stack system, following main components: 500 W cell, 12 V A battery start-up, super-capacitor bank supply peak loads 48 DC-DC boost converter. generated power dissipated results from shows qualitative agreement test bench results, similar trends in response load hydrogen flow rate variation. discrepancies ranged 2% 6%, depending on resistance applied. controlled source utilised simulate variation fan consumption temperature, ranging 36.5 23 °C 52 65 °C. Both experiments showed overall PEMFC maximum efficiency about 48%.
